In1960hissecondfilmNIKTNIEWOLA/NOBODY'SCALLING,basedonaJozefHennovelthatwasneverpublishedinPoland,describedthefateofPolesontheEasternFront.Kutzusedthefilmtoexplorenewformalsolutions,collaboratingcloselywithcinematographerJerzyWojciktorevealthepsychologicallandscapeofapairofloverswhoarestronglyaffectedbywartimeevents.Thecamerarecordedthecouple'sinnerexperiences,contrastingtheirmutedintimacyagainstthesurroundingsceneryofaruinedtown.Thefilmdidnotwinovercriticsatthetimeofitsrelease.ItwasnotuntillaterthatcriticsrecognizedKutz'sefforttoexperimentwithaestheticsinamannerakintothatpursuedbyfilmmakersofthenewwave.NOBODY'SCALLINGcametobecomparedwithMichelangeloAntonioni'sTHEADVENTURE,whichwasproducedaroundthesametime.
